Best Practices in Reading Comprehension Instruction

Best Practices in Reading Comprehension Instruction
This 10-hour module’s overall purpose is to address the overarching question of how to effectively teach comprehension and focus on elements of best-practice instruction. It is based on a synthesis of research taken from AFT’s Reading Comprehension Instruction course and incorporates strategies for increasing students’ knowledge of narrative and expository text as well as vocabulary development.
The content is appropriate for all K-12 teachers who need help to increase their students’ comprehension of text, whether that text is a literature selection or a subject-area textbook.
Participants will have many opportunities for interaction and personal engagement, including short videos, research, journaling and knowledge checks. A certificate of 10 contact hours will be provided upon full completion of the module.
